Pitching Agentic AI to Journalists Who've Seen It All

If your pitch subject line contains the words "AI agent," you're already losing. Not because the category isn't real or interesting — it is — but because every journalist covering AI has spent the last 18 months drowning in agentic product announcements that all say the same thing. Autonomous. Multi-step. Transformative.

I placed GAIA's founders in Forbes and Decrypt during the thick of the 2024-2025 agent hype wave. We got the placements not because GAIA had the loudest "AI agent" story, but because we ditched that frame entirely. What landed was a story about decentralized knowledge systems and node count as a trust signal. The word "agent" appeared in the article. It just wasn't the pitch.

That's the whole game right now. Not "we built an AI agent." But "here's what our system does that no one else can measure, prove, or explain."
