The reporter opens Perplexity, cross-references the claim against the leaderboard, and the story dies before the follow-up email goes out. This is happening constantly right now, and most AI founders still don't know it. I run PR for AI and Web3 founders. When I started placing GAIA's decentralized AI story with Forbes and Decrypt, the instinct from the engineering team was to lead with model scores. We didn't. We led with 400,000 nodes and a "living knowledge systems" narrative that gave journalists something they could explain to a reader who doesn't own a GPU. That story landed. The bar chart version wouldn't have. Benchmark-driven PR isn't dead.
